Roller derby is so hard, you guys. The basic skating skills are hard. The speed skating skills are hard. Doing the basic skills while people hit you is so hard. Doing skills quickly and instinctively while people hit you and you maneuver strategically may well be impossible. It's so hard and it's so hard to be a grown ass woman with a competent career, trying to do things that are new and hard in front of a whole group of people whose opinions are important to you. Derby has made me cry so many times out of sheer frustration, to say nothing of all that self-loathing baggage I drag onto the track with me. But it's worth it.
